Mission

  • Identify, locate and protect historic neighborhoods, buildings and landmarks within the City of Normandy, Missouri through guidance by a preservation specialist, surveys, records, research and designation procedures outlined in the Historic Preservation Code.

  •  To educate the citizens of Normandy and their elected leaders about the importance of historic preservation in defining the City of Normandy and In its key role in the City’s economic development.

  • To promote the identity of Normandy as a historic preservation city, proud of its heritage and steadfast in its efforts to protect the historically significant.

Description 

The purpose of the Historic Preservation Commission is to:

  1. Promote and encourage historic research with respect to the City;
  2. To faster and promote public knowledge of and interest in the history of the City, as well as other local and national history;
  3. To study all buildings and structures located in the City which have historic or architectural significance; and
  4. To make recommendations to the City Council relating to acquisition of historic sites, possible regulations to preserve and protect landmark buildings and sites and other places of historic interest and the marking of places of historic interest with suitable monuments, plaques or markers.
