REQUIREMENTS FOR SWIMMING POOLS
1. Submit a completed building permit
application.
2. Submit with the above application, one
copy of the plot (site) plan showing existing structures with swimming
pool and its perpendicular distances to the lot lines and from other
structures on the lot, if any. The wall of a swimming pool must be at
least 6 feet from all lot lines and 6 feet from all existing structures.
3. Also submit a completed "Swimming
Pool Questionnaire" Form attached.
4. Detailed drawings and specifications
will not be required for above-ground swimming pools if submitted with a
completed Swimming pool questionnaire. A pre-construction site inspection
will be required, as well inspections at the time of installation.
5. Fencing with minimum height of 48 inches
and maximum height of 72 inches must be provided around the pool with a
self-closing and self-latching gate. The latch must be at least four (4)
feet above grade or otherwise made inaccessible from the outside to small
children. Minimum requirement is chain link fencing and may be slatted. If
other than a chain-link fence is proposed, an elevation drawing and
typical section of the fence must be provided. Openings in enclosures
shall prohibit the passage of a sphere larger than 4-inches in diameter
and designed to prevent the enclosure from being readily climbed by small
children. A natural barrier, pool cover or other protective device
approved by the governing body shall be an acceptable enclosure as long as
the degree of protection afforded by the substituted device or structure
is not less than the protection afforded by the enclosure, gate and latch
described herein. (Normandy City Code Sec. 500.040)
6. Receptacles are generally required to be
at least 10 feet away from the inside walls of the pool. Receptacles are
permitted to be located between 5 and 10 feet from the inside walls of the
pool if it is to be used to supply electric power to a water pump motor.
This particular receptacle must be a single contact device of the locking
and grounding type. All receptacles must be protected by a ground-fault
circuit-interrupter (GFCI).
7. Lighting fixtures shall not be located
less than 5 feet from the inside walls of the pool
except where they are installed at least 5 feet above the maximum water
level and rigidly attached to the structure. GFCI protection is required
up to 10 feet from the inside walls of the pool.
8. Switching devices of any type must be
located at least 5 feet from the inside walls of the pool.
9. Utility lines shall not be over any part
of the pool or the entire area that extends 10 feet horizontally from the
inside walls of the pool as well as over any diving structure, observation
stands, towers, or platforms.
10. Underground wiring is not permitted to
be installed under the pool or within 5 feet of the inside walls of the
pool.
